“IndiGo started two weekly flights between India and the Maldives under an air bubble today,” the airline said in a press release. The first flight under the air bubble agreement is scheduled to depart Tuesday, August 18 for Male. However, it is not yet known which airlines will operate on the line. Prior to the closure of the pandemic, IndiGo (6E), Go Air (G8) and SpiceJet (SG) had direct flights from Indian cities to Male. Under the concept of an agreement on air bubbles between countries, citizens with valid travel documents are allowed to travel freely between countries and do not have to submit to a mandatory quarantine upon arrival. The introduction of the air bubble aims to encourage the influx of people from both sides for tourism, employment, the economy, medical emergencies, etc. A contribution shared by the Maldives (@maldives) on June 20, 2020 at 1:52 p.m. PDT. An air bubble between countries allows citizens to travel freely between certain nations without having to submit to quarantine on arrival. India has currently authorized travel to the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, France and Kuwait and is in talks with Canada for a similar travel agreement. IndiGo reported that, since Thursday, it had begun flights on the Kochi Male line as part of the bilateral air bubble agreement between India and the Maldives.
The Maldives reopened to tourists on 15 July after being stranded for four months due to the coronavirus outbreak. With the reopening of tourism, the Maldives government has officially asked the Indian government to establish a special air bubble between the two countries. The two countries should be able to reach an agreement within the next two or three days. If this happens, we can expect that there will soon be an air bubble between India and the Maldives. In line, with its vision of strengthening international connectivity from India, IndiGo recently launched two weekly flights between India and the Maldives under the bubble. The first such agreement in South Asia was recently concluded as a result of the agreement between the two governments. IndiGo will fly twice a week on the Kochi Male Kochi line, while following all precautions and ensuring a safe and easy travel experience aboard a clean flying machine. India has built an air bubble with Afghanistan. Indian airlines and Ariana Afghan Airlines are now allowed to offer routes between India and Afghanistan and carry the following categories of people on these flights: India signed an air bubble agreement with the Maldives on Thursday, making it the sixth country on a growing list of places where Indians can travel. The first flight to Male will depart by August 18. Since July, India has closed separate bilateral air bubble pacts with countries such as the United States, the United Kingdom, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and the Maldives Once the air bubble is manufactured, it will allow a limited number of flights from certain Indian airports to the Maldives to operate.
