Baggage Interline Agreement Airlines

Also note that just because United can check baggage with airlines (including non-Star Alliance airlines) with which they have an Interline agreement does not mean they will do so if you are travelling with separate tickets. As mentioned above, it is based on the discretion of agents, and some agents are not as familiar with the procedure as properly checking luggage on separate tickets, so you will say it cannot be done. Code sharing is seen as the next step up interlining and sees how airlines collaborate by placing their “codes” on other people`s flights. What is this code? It depends on the airline. IATA gives the codes to all member airlines, and that is what is shown on the flight number of each flight. If two airlines have an interline agreement, they usually take care of check-in and baggage for passengers on the other side. This means that travellers must check in only once for all flights on the itinerary and that their luggage will be delivered from the first airline to the second, without having to pick them up and hand them over manually. Therefore, if your next flight is with a non-oneworld airline, you must pick up your baggage in your destination city AA and check it again with your next airline. And unfortunately, this includes (upated: oneworld Airlines) and the airlines with which AA collaborates, but which are not oneworld partner airlines, such as Etihad Airways, Alaska Airlines, Air Tahiti Nui. So if you are booked on a JFK Etihad flight, but you live in Miami and book a separate ticket on American because there is no storage space for the allocation of savers, you must pick up the luggage at JFK and check it again at Etihad. Now, you`re probably going to scratch your head and say why I`d buy two tickets? Well, it`s becoming more and more common as passengers look for ways to reduce costs.

For example, if you are travelling from Denver to Athens, you may find that it is cheaper to buy a ticket from Denver to NYC and buy a second ticket from NYC to Athens. Similar cases fly in the United States, where it is cheaper to buy a ticket from your original airport at a connecting airport and a second ticket from the connecting airport to your final destination. In the past, airlines would have located your luggage to your final destination, as long as you showed them both tickets (or etickets). Now, American, United and Delta will check your luggage until the connection, where you have to pick it up and re-inspect it. Unlike many baggage fees, these rules apply to members with elite status and apply even if the second ticket is booked with an airline that is part of the airline`s same marketing partners/alliances. Very few airlines will do this — more and more refuse to try to get a full-service airline like Delta to transfer luggage to other airlines with separate tickets, really won`t work American Airlines has recently changed its baggage policy when traveling with separate tickets. As of October 1, 2014, American Airlines will only check baggage for customers travelling with separate tickets when the separate ticket is activated: remember that when you return to the U.S., you must always pick up your luggage in the first U.S. city where you arrive and pay for customs, and then return your baggage. So make sure you leave enough time to do so if you have a U.S. flight on a return flight, as you will not be able to check your luggage. As with check-in, free baggage for code sharing is usually that of the airline that makes the flight.
